LNG imports to cost over $1b in winter
As winter is approaching, the struggle to keep kitchen stoves burning through cold months is set to carry a staggering price tag of $1 billion, fuelled by high costs of liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from the open market triggered by the US-Israel-Iran war. Pakistan's government is set to import 10 LNG cargoes at double the price at which LNG is being imported from Qatar. These cargoes will be purchased from the spot market for deliveries from November 2026 to February 2027 to meet the high demand for gas in the winter season.
